Bob Jones University

Bob Jones University, or BJU, is a Christian liberal arts school that teaches students to remember and serve Christ in their daily lives. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs. More than 3,000 students attend the school, and the university has on campus and online classes available. Dr. Bob Jones Sr. established the school in 1927.

Online Counseling Degrees
Bob Jones University offers several counseling programs. For instance, students can acquire their graduate degree in counseling from the school. The BJU course will provide students with an ecclesiastical and practical introduction to the ministry of Christian counseling. Students will also gain a biblical foundation in the career area. They will learn how to deal with problems in the field and effective counseling procedures. The university’s other graduate programs include specialties in crisis and biblical counseling.

Bob Jones University is an affiliate of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. Campbellsville University

Campbellsville University is a private university located in Campbellsville, Kentucky. It is associated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention (a branch of the Southern Baptist Convention) and has a student body of over 3,000. CU has been ranked #22 in U.S. News and World Report’s list of “Best Baccalaureate Colleges in the South.”

Online Counseling Degrees
CU offers a master’s degree in Counseling, or MSC. Students may take all courses online or mix online and evening classes. They may also choose one of three specializations within the program: Generalist (requiring 36 credit hours), Marriage and Family (42 hours), or Clinical (60 hours). The Clinical and Marriage and Family specializations prepare students to seek licensing in Kentucky. This preparation can also be applied to the licensing process in many other states. Courses are offered by faculty from four disciplines: Christian studies, psychology, sociology, and social work.

Colorado Christian University

Colorado Christian University is a private academic institution located in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. The university started as the Denver Bible Institute in 1914. Four-year degrees have been available at Colorado Christian University since 1945, and the university now offers graduate degrees as well. The academic institution was assigned an “A” letter grade by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni in 2012.

Crown College

Crown College is a private Christian school that has been providing students with an education for almost 100 years. Its location is west of Minneapolis, MN, and the school offers a variety of professional and graduate degrees. Students can attend physical classes or take online courses. Crown College is one of the “Top 10 Online Christian Colleges of 2013,” and U.S. News & World Report ranked it in their list of “Best Midwest Regional Colleges.”

Online Counseling Degrees
Crown College students can earn their bachelor’s degree in counseling. In fact, it is one of the school’s most popular programs. The course is entirely online and Christ oriented. During the program, students will receive an educational foundation in psychological theory. In addition, the college’s counseling coursework focuses on human development and behavior. Students will also cultivate their listening skills and assessment methods. After acquiring their degree, graduates will have the opportunity to work in human resources, public relations and human services.

Dallas Theological Seminary

Dallas Theological Seminary is a non-denominational evangelical institution located in Dallas, Texas, with extensions in numerous other cities in the United States and Guatemala. DTS was founded in 1924 and enrolls about 2,000 students.

Online Counseling Degrees
DTS offers a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Counseling, available both online and in face-to-face format. The program’s goal is to prepare students for a career in counseling with an evangelical Christian foundation, as well as to prepare them to undergo the licensing procedure to become a professional counselor in the state of Texas. The program requires 90 credit hours and is designed to be completed in 3 years. Courses include Abnormal Human Behavior, Personality Theory, Counseling Methods and Techniques, and three semesters of practicum. There is also a heavy emphasis on theological coursework.

DTS holds regional accreditation from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The MA in Biblical Counseling is also accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.

Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University is a private, for-profit Christian university located in Phoenix. Founded in 1949 as a non-profit institution, GCU continues to operate a traditional campus in addition to its many online programs, which currently serve over 40,000 students.

Online Counseling Degrees
GCU offers three degrees in Counseling, all of which are available online as well as face-to-face. The Bachelor of Science in Counseling with an Emphasis in Addiction, Chemical Dependency, and Substance Abuse prepares students to pursue careers in mental health or proceed to graduate studies. GCU also offers two graduate degrees: the MS in Professional Counseling and the MS in Addiction Counseling. The former requires 36 credits for graduation, while the latter requires 62. Both also require completion of practicums. Which program a student should choose depends upon his or her career goals.

Accreditation
GCU has held regional accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools continuously since 1968. The National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission accredits the MS in Addiction Counseling.

Liberty University

Liberty University is located in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains in the town of Lynchburg. Currently, the school has the honor of being the nation’s largest nonprofit private university. It is also the world’s largest Christian university. The idea for the college came from Pastor Jerry Falwell Sr. who challenged the Thomas Road Baptist Church congregation to found a school. By 1985, Liberty University was an accredited college. Today, the school offers more than 300 educational programs, and it allows students to earn certificate level degrees as well as doctorates. Liberty University permits students to attend classes on campus or online.

Online Counseling Degrees
Liberty University lets students earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree with a specialization in crisis counseling. The program teaches students how to provide counseling services to people before, during and after a crisis. To acquire the degree, students will need to complete 120 credit hours. In addition, students will need to take 18 course hours from Liberty University. Students can also major in Christian counseling through the school.

Accreditation
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has given accreditation to Liberty College, which allows the school to award associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctorate degrees.

Ohio Christian University

Ohio Christian University is a private institution affiliated with the Churches of Christ in Christian Union. OCU enrolls approximately 3,300 students. Originally founded in 1948 as a seminary called Mount of Praise Bible College, its current name dates from 2006, when it diversified its offerings and received accreditation.

Online Counseling Degrees
OCU offers a bachelor’s degree in Substance Abuse Counseling. This degree may be earned online or through traditional face-to-face classes. Students are educated in topics related to addiction recovery and prepared to seek a license to practice counseling in Ohio. Examples of classes offered by the program include Psychopharmacology, Abnormal Psychology, Case Management, and courses in both group and individual counseling, as well as courses on theology and Christian ethics. Graduation requires successful completion of 51 core credit hours. Online students take one course at a time, rather than enrolling in multiple courses at once.

University of the Southwest

Founded in 1962, University of the Southwest is a four-year Christian institution located in Hobbs, New Mexico. The university was ranked the 13th best college in the West by U.S. News & World Report.

Online Counseling Degrees
University of the Southwest offers a fully online Master of Science in Education, School Counseling degree program that qualifies graduates for licensure as school counselors in primary, elementary, middle, and high school settings. Southwest also provides a state licensure program for those who have already earned master’s degrees. In addition to counseling coursework, students are required to complete a practicum and an internship.
