Top 50 Christian Colleges and Universities for Veterans 2016

Top 50 Colleges for VetsHighlighting Christian liberal arts colleges and universities across the country, this month’s ranking prioritizes schools which excel in the services they offer to members of the United States Military and their dependents. Each of the featured colleges and universities are proud participants in The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, offer credit for military training, or both. By offering these and other benefits to America’s service members and their families, these schools play an important role in easing the transition back into civilian life for veterans and are giving back to the individuals who have themselves made sacrifices for our nation.

The methodology behind this ranking began with schools that are members or member eligible of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).  We only considered schools that had been ranked in our 50 Best Christian Colleges and Universities 2015 ranking.  We then considered if schools participated in the Yellow Ribbon Program.  Lastly, consideration was given for schools that gave students credit for military training.

Warner University

Located in Lake Wales, Florida, Warner University is a private, Christian liberal arts institution. The school is affiliated with the Church Of God denomination and was established in 1968. Committed to providing Christian higher education at an affordable price, Warner University takes great pride in the diversity of its student body. Offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its three schools, Warner has been named among America’s Best Colleges for multiple consecutive years. A military and veteran friendly school, Warner University is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and does offer credit for military training.

Missouri Baptist University

The Missouri Baptist University (MBU) is a private, evangelical Christian, coeducational university located in St. Louis, Missouri. Formerly known as the Missouri Baptist College, the school officially changed its name in 2002. Historically affiliated with the Baptist denomination, MBU’s core purpose is to “teach, empower, and inspire students for service and lifelong learning.” MBU offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs and offers several programs and courses in an online format. Named among some of the top Military Friendly Schools by GI Jobs, MBU is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and does offer credit for military training.

University of Mobile

Located in Mobile, Alabama, the University of Mobile is a private, four-year institution. Established in 1961 and operating under the motto of, “The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom”, Mobile is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist Convention. Offering a variety of degree programs in the areas of liberal arts and sciences and professional programs, Mobile’s mission is to be “intentionally dedicated to biblically based Christian culture in heritage, faith, and practice.” A military and veteran friendly school, the University of Mobile is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and does offer credit for military training.

Northwest Christian University

Located in Eugene, Oregon, Northwest Christian University (NCU) is a private, Christian liberal arts institution. Established in 1895, NCU is historically affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. A top ranking regional institution, NCU offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree programs. NCU’s mission is “to develop competent, ethical leaders for service in the workplace, community, Church and world.” A military and veteran friendly school, NCU is dedicated to providing servicemembers and their families with an exceptional educational experience. Many classes are offered both on campus or online, which allows for greater flexibility and NCU does offer credit for military training.

Azusa Pacific University

Located in Azusa, California, a suburb near Los Angeles, Azusa Pacific University is a private, evangelical Christian institution. Established in 1899, Azusa Pacific is grounded in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, but identifies as interdenominational. Azusa Pacific’s mission is to be “an evangelical Christian community of disciples and scholars who seek to advance the work of God in the world through academic excellence… [encouraging] students to develop a Christian perspective of truth and life.” Azusa Pacific offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, many of which are available online. Named a Military Friendly School by GI Jobs as well as one of the “Best for Vets” by the Military Times, Azusa Pacific is a Yellow Ribbon University and offers credit for military training.

Cedarville University

Located in Cedarville, Ohio, Cedarville University is a private, coeducational Christian institution. Established in 1887, Cedarville started out in affiliation with the Reformed Presbyterian Church; today, the school is an independent Baptist university. Cedarville holds a strong commitment to biblical Christian values, including the inerrancy and authority of scripture and a creationist approach to scientific research and study. The school’s motto is, “For the Crown and Covenant of Christ.” Cedarville offers a wide variety of academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level – many courses are also offered online. A military and veteran friendly school, Cedarville is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Emmanuel College

Located in Franklin Springs, Georgia, conveniently near both Athens and Atlanta, sits Emmanuel College, a private, Christian, liberal arts institution. Established in 1919, Emmanuel College is affiliated with International Pentecostal Holiness Church. Emmanuel’s mission is to be “dedicated to intellectual, physical and spiritual growth within the context of liberal arts education and environment of Christian concern.” Made up of four schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, Christian Ministry, and Education, Emmanuel offers a variety of undergraduate degree programs. Emmanuel College does offer credit for military training and is approved as an institution to provide training of veterans and their dependants under the various educational benefits programs that are offered by the Veterans Administration.

Northwest University, located in Kirkland, Washington, is a private, regionally accredited, Christian co-educational institution. A top ranking regional institution, Northwest University offers a wide variety of associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Northwest’s mission is to “build a learning community dedicated to spiritual vitality, academic excellence, and empowered engagement with human need.” Approved as an educational institution for the training of veterans or their dependents, Northwest University is known as a military and veteran friendly institution. Northwest is a participant in the Post 9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and the school does offer credit for military training.

North Park University

Located in the north side of Chicago, Illinois, North Park University is a private Christian institution, established in 1891 by the Evangelical Covenant Church. Self described as “distinctively Christian; intentionally urban; and purposefully multi-cultural”, North Park has been recognized as one of the nation’s best universities. The university’s motto succinctly describes both its mission and goal, which is “preparing students for lives of significance and service”. Offering a variety of undergraduate and pre-professional programs, North Park is known to be a military and veteran friendly institution, offering multiple education benefits for veterans and servicemembers, military tuition assistance programs, and credit for military training.

Bethel College

Located in Mishawaka, Indiana, Bethel College is a private, Christian liberal arts institution established in 1893 by Mennonite Brethren in Christ founder, Daniel Brenneman. Formally affiliated with the evangelical Christian Missionary Church, Bethel is built upon the Wesleyan tradition. The school’s mission is to be a “community of learners dedicated to building lives of commitment for leadership in the Church and the world.” A top ranked college, Bethel has been listed as one of the Best Colleges for Your Money by Money Magazine and the school offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. A military friendly school, Bethel College does offer credit for military training.

Eastern University

Eastern University is a private, co-educational, comprehensive Christian institution located west of Philadelphia in St. Davids, Pennsylvania. Though formally affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA, Eastern boasts an interdenominational Christian student body, faculty, and administration. Eastern’s mission is to be an institution that is “dedicated to the preparation of … students for thoughtful and productive lives of Christian faith and service.” Eastern has been named among the “50 Best Colleges for Older Students” and is known to be a military friendly school. A participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, Eastern also offers credit for military training.

Mississippi College

The second oldest Baptist-affiliated college in the nation and the largest private university in the state, Mississippi College (MC) is located in Clinton, Mississippi. With the motto of “Truth and Virtue”, MC’s vision is “to be known as a university recognized for academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ.” Built upon the core values of integrity, inquiry and knowledge, service, respect, excellence, and stewardship, MC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level programs and degree options. A military friendly school, MC does offer credit for military training to eligible persons and the university is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Oklahoma Christian University

Located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Christian University (OC) is a private, comprehensive, coeducational, Christian liberal arts institution. Established in 1950 by members of the Churches of Christ, OC is a top ranking university, having been named one of the best in the west by multiple sources. OC offers a variety of undergraduate programs and degrees as well as graduate-level degrees. The school’s mission is to be a “higher learning community that transforms lives for Christian faith, scholarship, and service.” A military friendly school, OC offers credit for military training and veteran and servicemember students are given four hours of Physical Education credit upon enrollment. OC is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Wheaton College

Located in Wheaton, Illinois, Wheaton College is a private, non-profit, four-year Christian liberal arts institution. Known for its solid academic results as well as strong Christian values, Wheaton’s motto is simply, “For Christ and His Kingdom”. Offering a wide variety of undergraduate majors, Wheaton’s mission is to serve Jesus Christ and advance “His kingdom through excellence in liberal arts and graduate programs that educate the whole person to build the church and benefit society worldwide.” Wheaton is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and financial aid is made available to veterans and their families through the GI Bill, War Orphans Educational Law and other programs. Wheaton also offers credit for military training.

Bethel University

Located in Arden Hills, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul, Bethel University is a private evangelical Christian higher education institution. Offering a wide variety of undergraduate, graduate, seminary, and adult education programs, many of Bethel’s courses are also offered online. A Christ-centered university, Bethel’s mission is to “prepare graduates to serve in strategic capacities to renew minds, live out biblical truth, transform culture, and advance the gospel.” A military friendly school, a variety of assistance programs, scholarships, and benefits are made available to veterans and servicemembers who wish to pursue their education at Bethel. The university does offer credit for military training and is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Nyack College

Located in Nyack, New York, Nyack College is a private, non-profit, liberal arts institution, sponsored by the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Built upon the core values of Academic Excellence, Global Engagement, Intentional Diversity, Personal Transformation, and Social Relevance, Nyack’s historic mission is to prepare men and women to “take the whole Gospel to the whole world.” Nyack offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees through its several colleges and schools with several classes and programs offered online. A military friendly school, Nyack seeks to make available multiple Veteran and Servicemember educational benefits; the school offers credit for military training and is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU) is a private, evangelical Christian university that is affiliated with the Wesleyan Church. A top ranking regional college, OKWU offers a wide variety of undergraduate, adult, and graduate degree programs both on campus and online. OKWU’s mission is to be a place of “serious study, honest questions and critical engagement… that honors the Primacy of Jesus Christ, the Priority of Scripture, the Pursuit of Truth, and the Practice of Wisdom.”A military friendly school, OKWU is a proud participant of the Post 9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program; offers credit for military training; and offers the Adult Program undergraduate tuition at a discounted rate for active-duty military.

George Fox University, located in Newberg, Oregon, is a private, Christian institution of the liberal arts and sciences. George Fox is affiliated with the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends and was established in 1885. A nationally recognized university, George Fox offers a variety of programs and degrees including bachelor’s, seminary, masters, and doctoral degrees. George Fox’s mission is to be a “Christ-centered community” which “prepares students spiritually, academically, and professionally to think with clarity, act with integrity, and serve with passion.” A military and veteran friendly school, George Fox is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and does offer credit for military training.

Located in Costa Mesa, California, Vanguard University of Southern California is a private, Christian institution of the liberal arts and professional studies. A top ranking regional university, Vanguard is affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination. Founded upon the three core values of truth, virtue, and service, the school’s mission is to equip and prepare every student “for a Spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service.” Vanguard offers a variety of both undergraduate and graduate programs and has received numerous recognitions for its military friendliness. A participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, Vanguard also offers credit for military training.

Houghton College

Located in Houghton, New York, in the Genesee Valley, Houghton College is a private, Christian liberal arts institution affiliated with the Wesleyan Church. A top ranking college, Houghton is committed to providing an education that is both academically challenging as well as Christ-centered. The college’s mission is to equip students from all walks of life to “lead and labor as scholar-servants in the changing world.”  Houghton offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors as well as several pre-professional studies and graduate-level degree programs. Houghton has been named a Military Friendly School by GI Jobs for “doing the most to embrace America’s military service members”. Houghton is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and offers credit for military training.

Dallas Baptist University

Dallas Baptist University (DBU) is a private, Christian liberal arts university, located in Dallas Texas. Established in 1898, DBU is formally affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Ranked among America’s Top Colleges, DBU offers a wide variety of study programs, including undergraduate and graduate-level degrees. DBU’s mission is to be a “great Christian university that is pleasing to God by producing Christ-centered servant leaders who are transforming the world.” A military-friendly school, DBU is approved by the Texas Veterans Commission for students who wish to receive educational benefits under various Veterans Administration Programs. A participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, DBU also offers credit for military training.

Located in Bluffton, Ohio, Bluffton University is a private, a Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA. A top ranking regional college, Bluffton offers a variety of undergraduate majors and interdisciplinary programs as well as graduate and adult degrees. Bluffton’s motto is, “The Truth Makes Free”, and the university’s mission is to prepare students from all walks of life to live and serve as responsible citizens for the blessing of others, to the glory of God and the purpose of His eternal kingdom. Located in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, John Brown University (JBU) is a private, liberal arts institution. An interdenominational institution established in 1919, JBU’s mottos are, “Christ over all” and “Head, Heart and Hand”. The school’s mission is to provide a “Christ-centered education that prepares people to honor God and serve others by developing their intellectual, spiritual and professional lives.” A top ranking regional college, JBU offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level degree programs. A military-friendly school, JBU has been approved as an institution for veterans and veterans’ beneficiaries training. Scholarships are available to qualified applicants and JBU is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and offers credit for military training.

Bryan College

Located in Dayton, Tennessee, Bryan College is a private, non-denominational Christian liberal arts institution. Established in 1930 in response to the famous Scopes “Monkey” trial, Bryan was founded with the purpose of teaching higher education from a biblical worldview. Bryan’s motto is “Christ Above All” and the school’s mission is to educate students who will “become servants of Christ to make a difference in today’s world.” Bryan offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, some of which are offered online as well as on campus. Bryan is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement program and does offer credit for military training.

William Jessup University

Located in Rocklin, California with a second location in San Jose, California, William Jessup University is a private, Christian liberal arts institution. Established in 1939 towards the end of the Great Depression, Jessup’s motto is simply, “Transforming tomorrow…Today,” with a mission to “educate transformational leaders for the glory of God.” Jessup offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs and is committed to building upon a biblical foundation and remaining true to Scripture. William Jessup University offers credit for military training and is a full participant in all educational benefits for veterans including the Post 9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Montgomery GI Bill, and all other benefits that are administered by the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs.

Biola University

Located in La Mirada, California, just outside of downtown Los Angeles, Biola University is a private, liberal arts university. Founded in 1908 as the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Biola is a non-denominational, evangelical Christian institution with the mission to be a “community abiding in truth, abounding with grace, and compelled by Christ’s love to be a relevant and redemptive voice in a changing world.” Biola offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level degrees, many of which are also offered online. Approved as a degree-granting institution for veterans, Biola offers a variety of Veteran Benefits programs and scholarships, is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, and does offer credit for military training.

Shorter University

Shorter University, located in Rome, Georgia, is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university. Historically affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, Shorter offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees through its seven colleges and schools in addition to adult education and graduate programs offered at its distance learning facilities across the state of Georgia. The university is dedicated to the advancement of God’s Kingdom through its commitment to “academic excellence, spiritual growth, Christian leadership, and global service within the context of a biblical worldview.” A number of VA Benefit programs are in place at Shorter University, including the Post 9/11 GI Bill. A participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, Shorter does offer credit for military training.

University of Northwestern - St. Paul

Located in Roseville, Minnesota, a Minneapolis St. Paul suburb, the University of Northwestern- St. Paul is a private evangelical Christian college. Northwestern’s mission and purpose is to “provide Christ-centered higher education equipping students to grow intellectually and spiritually, to serve effectively in their professions, and to give God-honoring leadership in the home, church, community and world.” Northwestern offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees and is a proud supporter of the U.S. Armed Forces. In 2015, Northwestern made the Military Friendly Schools list for its third consecutive year, in recognition for doing the most to “embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students.” A participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, Northwestern does offer credit for military training.

The Master's College & Seminary

Located in Santa Clarita, California, The Master’s College (TMC) is a private, non-denominational Christian liberal arts college. TMC’s mission and goal is to “empower students for a life of enduring commitment to Christ, biblical fidelity, moral integrity, intellectual growth and lasting contribution to the Kingdom of God worldwide.” Several undergraduate, graduate and degree completion programs are offered in both online and classroom teaching formats. TMC welcomes veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces and offers a number of benefits and financial aids for veterans, active duty, reservists, and their families. A participant in the Post 9/11 Benefit and the Yellow Ribbon Program, TMC also offers credit for military training.

LeTourneau University

Located in Longview, Texas, LeTourneau University (LU) is a private, nondenominational Christian university. Operating under the motto of, “Faith brings us together – Ingenuity sets us apart,” LU offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate academic programs that are offered online, on campus, or at several conveniently located education centers across the state of Texas. Founded in 1946 as a technical institute designed to serve GIs returning home after serving in WWII, LU has a long history of military-friendliness. LU is partnered with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and proudly honors all military members as a participant in the federal POST 9/11 GI Bill. LU also offers credit for military training and participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Geneva College

Located northwest of Pittsburgh, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Geneva College is a private, comprehensive Christian college. Originally founded in 1848 in Ohio by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, the school moved to its current location in 1880. A top ranking college that has been recognized by names such as U.S News & World Report, Geneva’s motto is simply: “For Christ and Country” and the school offers a variety of undergraduate majors and programs as well as adult degree programs. A military-friendly school, Geneva College is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and does offer credit for military training.

Southeastern University

Located in Lakeland, Florida, Southeastern University is a private Christian liberal arts institution. Established in 1935 in New Brockton, Alabama, originally, the school relocated in 1946 and transitioned into a liberal arts college by 1970. Made up of six colleges, Southeastern is the largest Assemblies of God educational institution in the nation and offers a number of bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. Southeastern is committed to “equipping the next generations of leaders” who will “go into the world as influential servants in their careers and communities.” A military-friendly school, Southeastern is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, offers credit for military training and is approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the certification of eligible students.

San Diego Christian College

San Diego Christian College (SDCC) is a private, evangelical Christian college located in Santee, California, a suburb of San Diego. Formerly known as Christian Heritage College from 1970 to 2005, SDCC is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and awards Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees in a number of areas. SDCC’s mission is to “educate and inspire students through the truth of Scripture and the development of competencies that prepare graduates whose purpose is to impact the world.” Approved for the educational training of Veterans, SDCC is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and offers benefits for veterans as well as credit for military training.

Eastern Nazarene College

Located in the historic area of Quincy, Massachusetts, near Boston, Eastern Nazarene College is a private, coeducational institution of the liberal arts and sciences. Eastern Nazarene College’s (ENC) roots trace back to 1900 when it was established as one of the first three schools to be affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. Well-known for its success rate in getting students accepted into top-rated graduate and medical schools, ENC is a trusted name given its commitment to Christian values as well as academics. Located in Anderson, Indiana, Anderson University is a private, Christian liberal arts university, founded in 1917 and affiliated with the Church of God. A top ranking college, Anderson offers a variety of undergraduate majors and pre-professional programs, graduate and adult degrees. The university is built upon the five pillars of Integrity, Excellence, Servant Leadership, Responsibility, and Generosity. Sterling College

Located in Sterling, Kansas, Sterling College is a private, four-year, Christian liberal arts institution that was established 1887 by the Presbyterian Church, with which it remains affiliated. Fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Sterling offers a variety of undergraduate programs of study that are taught both on campus as well as online. Sterling College’s stated mission and goal is to “develop creative and thoughtful leaders who understand a maturing Christian faith.” Sterling College has been recognized as a Military Friendly School and is a participant in The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. Sterling offers veteran’s benefits as well as credit for military training.

Lipscomb University

Located in the Green Hills area of Nashville, Tennessee, Lipscomb University is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university, affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Built upon the five pillars of Faith, Community, Knowledge, Innovation, Service, Lipscomb’s stated mission is to “intentionally, courageously, and graciously obey God’s will.” A variety of both undergraduate and graduate-level degree and certificate programs are offered at the university. Lipscomb’s degree programs are approved by the state-approving agency for the training of veterans and other eligible individuals, according to the laws administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Credit for military training is offered and Lipscomb is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

MidAmerica Nazarene University

Located in Olathe, Kansas, MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) is a private, Christian liberal arts institution established in 1966 by the Church of the Nazarene. Offering a variety of undergraduate, graduate and professional studies programs, MNU’s main mission is to be “a transformative university that nurtures Christ-like community, pursues academic excellence, and cultivates a passion to serve.” Named one of the most affordable private colleges by Money Magazine, MNU is also a military-friendly school, offering a Military Financial Aid Program which benefits active military, veterans and their spouses. In addition to this program, MNU is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and also offers college credit for military service.

Whitworth University

Located in located in Spokane, Washington and affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) Whitworth University is a private, Christian, liberal arts college. Formerly known as Whitworth College, until 2007, when the institution changed its name, Whitwoth’s motto is simply, “Education of the Mind and Heart.” A strong emphasis is placed on building relationships, with professors and faculty striving to mentor students both in and outside of the classroom, particularly through Whitworth’s student-life program. A military-friendly school, Whitworth is approved as an institution of higher education for veteran training by the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC). A participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, Whitworth does offer credit for military training.

Toccoa Falls College

Toccoa Falls College is a private Christian institution, affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Toccoa Falls College (TFC) is located on a large 1,100 acre campus bordering the Chattahoochee National Forest in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. TFC’s mission and motto is to be a place “where godly character is developed with intellect.” Made up of three schools, including the Christian Ministries, Arts, and Sciences, and Professional Studies, TFC offers a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs. Several of TFC’s programs are made available to veterans, reservists, and their dependents. TFC also offers credit for military training and is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program.

Liberty University

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Lynchburg, Virginia, Liberty University is a private Christian institution affiliated with the Southern Baptist denomination. The largest Christian university in the world and the fifth largest university in the nation, Liberty’s mission to “develop Christ-centered men and women with the values, knowledge, and skills essential to impact tomorrow’s world.” Liberty is dedicated providing education options to those who have served and are serving in the U.S. Armed forces. A participant in the Yellow Ribbon program, Liberty has been named a Military Friendly School by GI Jobs and has earned recognition as one of the “Best for Vets” Colleges and Business Schools by the Military Times. Liberty does offer credit for military training.

Crown College

Crown College is a private Christian institution, located in Saint Bonifacius, Minnesota, about 30 minutes west of Minneapolis. Crown is affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination and operates under the motto of “Called to serve, prepared to lead.” Crown offers a variety of undergraduate degree programs in numerous fields of study as well as a variety of graduate and degree completion programs through their Adult & Graduate Studies. Several programs may be completed either on campus or online. Recognized as a military-friendly school by GI Jobs, Crown offers multiple active military and veterans education benefits, grants credit for military training and is a participant of the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Calvin College

Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Calvin College is a private Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA). Calvin’s mission is to equip students who will “think deeply, act justly, and live wholeheartedly as Christ’s agents of renewal in the world.” The College awards undergraduate degrees across a variety of academic and pre-professional fields. Calvin has been recently recognized by GI Jobs as a Military Friendly School, based on the College’s “academic programs, reputation and support of student veterans.” Partnered with the Department of Veteran Affairs, Calvin is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon program and offers credit for military training.

Hope International University

Hope International University (HIU) is a private Christian institution, located in the heart of Orange County in Fullerton, California. Affiliated with the non-denominational Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, HIU’s mission is to “empower students through Christian higher education to serve the Church and impact the world for Christ.” HIU is made up of multiple colleges and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees. A military-friendly school, HIU offers a number of military payment options and is dedicated to providing flexible and affordable degree options to meet the needs of active military and veterans. HIU does offer credit for military training and is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Abilene Christian University

Located in Abilene, Texas, Abilene Christian University (ACU) is a private, non-profit university that has become known as a leader in Christian higher-education. Affiliated with the Churches of Christ, ACU’s mission is simply stated to educate students for “Christian service and leadership throughout the world.” Named one of “America’s Best Colleges” by multiple sources such as Forbes and The Princeton Review, ACU offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors and graduate degree programs. A military- and veteran-friendly school, ACU is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and, as a member of the Service Members Opportunity College Organization, offers credit for military training.

Union University

Located in Jackson, Tennessee, Union University is a private, evangelical Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, which relates to the Southern Baptist Convention. Established in 1823, Union is the oldest institution in the nation to be affiliated with the Southern Baptist denomination. Union’s mission is to provide students with a “Christ-centered education that promotes excellence and character development in service to Church and society.” A military-friendly school, Union was recently ranked as the 12th Best Colleges for Veterans among Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report. Union is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and offers credit for military training.

Corban University

Located in Salem, Oregon, Corban University is a private, independent Christian institution. Called after an ancient Hebrew word meaning, “a gift dedicated to God”, the name Corban is what the university seeks to be and do through its students. Established in 1935, Corban’s mission is to “educate Christians who will make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ.” The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs both on campus and online. Corban is a participant in the Post 9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program, which offer education benefits for veterans, their spouses, or children. Corban also offers credit for military training.

Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University (GCU), located in Phoenix, Arizona, is a private Christian research university. GCU’s mission is to prepare students to “become a global citizens, critical thinkers, effective communicators and responsible leaders by providing an academically challenging, values-based curriculum from the context of our Christian heritage.” GCU awards bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in a variety of areas through its multiple colleges. A military- and veteran-friendly school, GCU offers college benefits to help eligible veterans cover the cost of outstanding tuition and fees. A participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, GCU also offers credit for military training.

Regent University

Regent University is a Christian research institution, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Regent’s mission is to serve “as a center for Christian thought and action” providing “excellent education through a biblical perspective and global context equipping Christian leaders to change the world.” Nationally ranked, Regent offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate programs, both online and on campus. A military- and veteran-friendly school, Regent offers a number of military financial aid opportunities that are designed to meet the needs of the individual. School based aid is offered in the form of discounts for military and veteran students as well as military dependent and spouse benefits; Regent is also a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and offers credit for military training.

College of the Ozarks

The College of the Ozarks (C of O) is a private Christian college located in Point Lookout, Missouri. Founded in 1906 with the intention of providing “the advantages of a Christian education… especially [to] those found worthy, but who are without sufficient means to procure such training,” C of O allows students to graduate from college completely debt free through a unique student-work program,. Nicknamed “Hard Work U”, C of O is also especially friendly to military and veteran students. The college participates in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program and offers credit for military training. A number of military/veteran scholarships are also available to students whose parents have served in the military or who have served themselves.
